Barcelona’s Sweet Rebel Bar – Shake out Your Dreads

Welcome to Jamaica. Kick off your shoes and take a seat. Feel the cool vibes, wash over you from the spiritual reggae music. Good times start here.

The vibe is intimate and the crowd is lively. It’s easy to see why so many people don’t want to leave

Original Jamaican cocktail? Mmm hmmm. Swings at the bar? Yes sir. Bamboo and Rootsman wood décor? Raaaaastafari!

In fact, this isn’t actually Jamaica at all, but a genuine chiringuito (beach bar), conveniently relocated from Kingston to Barcelona’s Gothic quarter. The Chilean owned Sweet Rebel bar is homage to all things Rastafari.  Drinks are served from a rustic beach shack complete with palms and small hanging lanterns that set the scene for a balmy night under the Caribbean stars. A turntable maintains a steady spinning flow of tunes from an impressive collection of reggae records. The bar has been adorned with colourful emblems of Jamaica and a few unique artworks that tie the whole look together. Passion for the culture shines through in every aspect of the bar, and any reggae lover will feel very much at home.

Sling in the fact that this is one of the few places you can pick up cans of Red Stripe and cocktails at bargain prices, and you’ll wonder why you ever went elsewhere.

Barcelona touches you on many levels, from the amazing architecture, to the food and the parties. Atmospheric small bars like Sweet Rebel are a big part of the magic of the city, especially if you swing by when there’s live music: The vibe is intimate and the crowd is lively. It’s easy to see why so many people don’t want to leave.

SBT says dine on: Peace and oneness.
SBT says wine on: Red Stripe.

Come here if: There’s a secret rasta waiting inside you
Don’t come here if: The only Jah you’ve ever heard of is a jam jar
When? Every day from 1900 Where? C/ Ample 54, 08002 Barcelona
